Steppin' Out
Last night my 12-year-old son Jesse went skipping joyfully down our street, swinging his new $4 toy sword. (He can't wait until Halloween to use it - he's going to be something called an "un-dead," and the costume includes wearing a creepy black mask and carrying a plastic weapon.) He'd gone to see if his neighborhood buddy could have a quick play date. Although the friend was unable to play, there was at least time for Jesse to make a brief sword debut. On his walk back home, he ran into another neighborhood boy hiding behind a tree in a gorilla suit. They had a little swashbuckling session, and then Jesse skipped on down the road. Next he ran into another neighbor, and they chatted about her horses and her broken collar bone. Next up was a mom and her two kids, who wanted to hear all about my husband's recent encounter with a bear in the Uintas. Jesse told the story with all of the necessary build up and gesticulations, getting the wide-eyed expressions of intrigue that makes telling a story like that so satisfying. So he didn't end up playing with his buddy, but he had a lovely neighborhood outing on a beautiful fall evening all the same.
This scene embodies life in Park City, where a simple walk down the street usually results in pleasant conversation with old friends, a breath of fresh air, face time with our ever-gorgeous mountains and spontaneous adventures.
In Park City Magazine, we bring you people, adventures and conversations, but since we only come out twice a year, it's hard to be "current." With the birth of this new Web site, we'll be able to keep you informed, intrigued and entertained on a more timely basis.
We love getting feedback on our magazine articles, along with ideas about new stories or people we should be writing about, so please feel free to contact me here with any ideas.
This is my first blog entry ever. Truth be told, I'm no expert, but I'm willing to take that stroll down the street and see what happens. It should be fun and spontaneous - like a walk in the park.

Nice Job on your first blog! But, what exactly is an "un-dead"??
Honestly? I have absolutely no idea.
I believe that "un-dead" is the point between the living and the dead. Your poor son will be caught in a nether-world! Congrats on the new site and the informational blog- I'll be checking back. If you're on Main Street for the trick-or-treating on the 31st, bring your kids by Gallery MAR for our "Children's Spookin' Art Show."
Hi Kristen,
Good luck with the new blog. I think this is a great way to communicate. My own children have been doing something like this for some time now. This is the future, the prefered and comfortable expression of the next generation. I think your idea to write about Jesse's adventure is perfect for the first blog, and appropriate.
Sincerely,
Laurel Ross
